Butterfly

Last August or September, Cato found a caterpillar and wanted to keep it. So we put it in a jar, thinking it wouldn't last long. Within a day or two it had formed a chrysallis on the side of the jar. When it hit December we thought maybe it had died inside because it was too cold or off season or something. Well, lo and behold, last month I came downstairs and asked why someone had brought a butterfly in a jar, then it hit me - that was the chrysallis jar. So we now have a Blue Swallowtail butterfly. It is still alive and being taken care of by Robby. UPDATE: Our success of raising a butterfly has ended. It is now flying around among other dead butterflies in butterfly heaven.

Oh wow! A success story! We did the same thing with a caterpillar last summer, but it died within 2 days...oh well, it's nice to know that it IS possible! :o)
